Christians, the Bible, and Tattoos
Tattoos and the Bible
Many Christians are not very fond of tattoos on the body. They feel that the body is a holy temple of the Lord, and that getting a tattoo defaces that temple in some way. Leviticus 19:28 says, "You shall not make any cuts in your body for the dead nor make any tattoo marks on yourselves: I am the LORD." This is one of the most common scriptures used by Christians to explain why they do not feel tattoos are appropriate. However, if examined more closely, this scripture has other meanings, and the tattoos in this particular case refer to Pagan mourning markings. The secular followers would give themselves tattoos as symbols of loved ones who had passed away. In other cases, however, the Bible allows for and encourages tattoos as long as they are not Pagan or against God. There are several scriptures that refer to them as "cutting of the flesh." The ancient pastimes of henna tattoos for women and battle markings for men were common during Biblical times and not as unusual as some modern Christians might think. This practice has long been a controversial one among followers of God, and much research has been performed to determine whether or not the Lord has allowed people to get tattoos. People with religious tattoos are showing the world their personal beliefs, and spreading the message of God with their own personal form of self-expression.

Christian Tattoo Ideas
If you are a Christian and would like to get a tattoo, you aren't restricted to just secular tattoo designs like dragons or skulls. Many Christians opt to get scriptures, fish, or even a drawing of the Bible itself tattooed on themselves. Many people like to get doves, scenes from a particular Bible story, or a tattoo of Jesus. Angels and crosses are beautiful symbols of Christianity, and show others your faith. As long as Christians avoid offensive or satanic tattoos, there are countless options for beautiful artwork that can be tattooed on their bodies.
